After about five years as a live music booking agent for Houston bands, I earned my Certificate in Music Business at Houston Community College in December 2003. Since May 2005, I have produced and hosted a music radio show at KPFT Houston. The name of the program is Laurapalooza, which is derived from the word, "lollapalooza," meaning "something outstanding and unusual." From February 2004 to April 2005, alternating with other hosts, I interviewed musicians and hosted live music on a weekday program called "24 PM." I am the KPFT Music Department Liaison, which includes many music-related duties. I have volunteered with the KPFT Music Department since August 2003. Since December 2006, I have been a part-time staff member at KPFT as Midday Operations Coordinator, facilitating and engineering the Open Journal programs Monday through Friday at noon and performing various other operations-related duties. In December 2007, I was selected as a Program Council member. In July 2009, I switched from Midday Operations Coordinator to Morning Operations Coordinator, engineering the shows from 5:30 to 10 AM and announcing traffic and weather reports.
